Overview
Next to air, water is one of the most vital and precious natural resources available to humans. Water is odorless, tasteless and colorless and is vital for life in all form on earth. Our quality of life is partly determined in a large sense, on the availability and health of the water where we live. Water is one of those natural resources we take for granted. Except of course when we are put on water restriction by the county or in the rare case when we forget or don't have the money to pay the bill and we have to go through a few hours or days without running water. Remember how inconvenient that feels? That is maybe one of the most opportune times for us to realize that we are fortunate to live in an area or country where we have access to running water to basically do as we please. Many people are not aware that we are currently going through a water crisis. Are you?

Over the course of this module we will be covering some basic facts on water, the cycle that water goes through and the many uses of water on earth. We will also study how the water on earth is distributed and that may give you a pretty good idea of how much freshwater or drinkable water is actually available to be shared with the billions of people on the planet. We will also take a look at how different it is in other parts of the world for people to gain access to clean water, the importance of having access to clean water and what we in the western world can do to preserve and conserve on this natural resource. You will be assessed along the way on what you have learned and you will be placed in groups to complete a project on spreading the word on water conservation and the water crisis and what people can do to make a difference.
At the end of the module students will:
- Identify importance of water and the body's make-up of water
- Explain the water cycle
- List the various categories of water use
- Site reasons why there is a water crisis
- Suggests ways in which we can save our planet
- Use a personal water journal and calculate their water usage
- Reflect on their water usage and suggests ways in which they can conserve
