Water Crisis Now that we have covered the basics on water and seen the importance to our very existence, let's take a real look at what is happening around us. Did you know that the world is actually experiencing a water crisis? Of course you probably didn't. Maybe if you did, you would be more considerate of how we use our water daily. What was the first thing you did when you got up this morning? Brush your teeth?, take a bath/shower? How long was your shower? Did you have the water just running while you brushed your teeth and admire yourself in the mirror? According to the World Water Council, by the year 2020 we will need 17% more water than is available to supply the world. This morning, while you ran the water while brushing your teeth, staring at yourself in the mirror, one little boy and girl had to walk a mile or more to get a bucket of clean water to share with the family. Also, somewhere another little boy or girl had to bathe in the same body of water with many other people. That same water is also used to wash clothes and it is that same water that hosts human waste. Sounds unreal and disgusting doesn't it?...But, it's the reality for a lot of people. People who do not have access to clean water to take care of the basic necessities of life. Let's do an interesting assignment at home. You will be able to enlist the help of your family members and get the opportunity to start the conversation about water conservation. Ok, ready?.... I would like you go home and calculate and journal the ways in which your family utilized water over the weekend for one full day. You will go to this website to calculate your water usage and share your findings on the wiki page with your group members. Remember to comment on each others' posts. Use the following resources to research information on your project and be sure to site your sources. See the videos below and take a look through these images of people living without access to clean water.
